Foodie Treat : Sushi Tei
With an excellent cook like my dad, who is willing to cook for me even after I got married and most importantly greatly enjoys cooking, I guess it has been my most powerful excuse for not having to cook.
So, with home cooked dinner mostly prepared by my dad, we hardly have to worry about our daily meals. When we had our domestic helpers, my dad imparted part of his culinary skills to them and then I have more excuses not to cook again *keke*.
I am so lucky to have two wonderful men who pamper my stomach *smile*.
Yeap, special thanks to my dad for those delicious dishes and Papa Ed who is generous in giving us frequent treats to delicacies *yummy*.
Actually, Papa Ed does not prefer me to cook or dirty the kitchen BECAUSE he would have to clean up *hehe*. AHEM! I think the truth is the food I have prepared must have tasted real awful!
So, when weekends arrived, we would continue our dining adventure.
I have posted earlier that our boys have a growing appetite and we can see Brendan’s face light up when he tries out food that suits his taste buds. Otherwise, he would repeat “Nice, Nice, this one leaves for me okay?” AHA! This means “I have reserved this food. Please do not touch” *lol*.
Actually, Brendan has been quite adventurous when it comes to food except for some food types that gave him bad experiences before. It has always been a joy trying out new food eateries or restaurants with our boys *smile*. Just see the leftover food stuck on Darren’s face and excitement on Brendan’s face. And I know it is all worth trying *beaming*.

Lately, Brendan has the crave for UDON. Papa Ed has special preference for SUSHI and sashimi when his appetite fails for all other food. For Darren, he is all ready to eat when it comes to RAMEN. So, here we were at the Japanese restaurant Sushi Tei.
How can dining at a Japanese restaurant be complete without these spices, sauces and GREEN TEA?
roe chawanmushi
Brendan’s and my favourite : soft shell crab (somehow, Brendan has inherited Papa Ed’s and my craving for crabs)
Steaming hot and tasty : udon in claypot, with Tempura, half boiled egg (another of our common liking), mushroom and chickens
Another dish that Brendan and I would fight for : Haha! Our all-time favourite terriyaki grilled squid. The one who wins the snatch? Brendan of course! Actually, I surrendered :)
Darren likes it plain and simple : soupy ramen with his favourite soft-boiled egg. Of course, mommy gladly gave up her chicken and narutomaki to him too
The “clam” Japanese ice cream
Fortunately, Brendan is beginning to enjoy food just like me. I must say it is a pleasure to have a dining experience with company who enjoy food just like us. Thinking positively, I should thank my gastritis condition because at least I am a willing sacrificer now when it comes to eating less and giving up food portions *smile*.
Talking about food, my friends and I are often debating over these : Do We “Eat to Live” or “Live to Eat”? I believe for food lovers, you would go for Option 2.
Haha! What do you say?
Do Children Love Ice Cream?
This poster on ice-cream looks so tempting that I could not resist the temptation and took a photo of it:)
Then,
I thought children would love ice cream.
I crave for ice cream when I was young. Well, simply because my mom barred me from eating for fear that I might have prolonged cough.
So, I thought children could not resist ice cream. Till my children prove me wrong.
Well, at least, Brendan and Darren don’t fancy ice cream.
Strangely, they do not have the ice cream craving like their parents do.
Just imagine, I even bought an ice cream maker at home, wanting to share home-made ice cream with my loved ones.
But then…..
Yummy yummy… in a hot weathered country like Singapore, who could resist that freezing ice cream?
And some even go for ice cream buffet.
[Imagine having endless rounds of assorted ice creams as a main meal. Eating to your heart's content...]
Once in a while, when Brendan and Darren are offered ice cream, they will try but tend to complain of the COLD.
Instead, they prefer the whipped cream, toppings, waffles or fruits that accompany the ice cream.
Or they will go for the melted version of the ice cream i.e. the liquid form that remains *haha*.
So, at least, we spot a similarity in the brothers *smile*.
Frankly, I am happy that they are also able to hold their control over unhealthy snacks and candies by eating minimally of these although Darren will still pester me once in a while:)
So, what about you? Do your children love ice cream? Do you crave for ice cream when you were young?
That Growing Appetite
When a child grows, his/her appetite naturally gets larger.
I guess as a boy grows, his appetite gets really HUGE.
Well, at least, it is HAPPENING to my elder boy.
As for my younger boy, his appetite can be BIG too when he is savouring his preferred food.
Well…usual kid’s meals at the restaurants might not fill both their stomachs anymore. For Bren, even a standard adult meal might not necessary satisfy his stomach.
Here’s Darren eating his HUGE and ADULT serving of RAMEN. Even the bowl seems too big for his face and high for him…..
On the contrary, here’s elder brother, Bren, eating his really MINI size serving of UDON for kids.
But do not be mistaken for his “small appetite” *hehe*.
Umm…mmmm…It turned out this mini size serving of udon only managed to fill, perhaps, a-fifth of his stomach. Then, here comes a mini bowl of RAMEN and then another bowl of JAPANESE RICE for him.
Then, this big bowl of soup, dishes of salmon, tofu, ebi tempura…..
Not to forget, the green tea and then the fruit juice, immediately after dinner.
Well, well…..I could not bear to see him still half full and allowed him to politely rob me of my half share of dinner *haha*.
[Anyway, isn't it natural for parents to keep encouraging our kids to "Eat more, eat more". OR. Give up our share of food just for that contentment when we see our kids' happy faces while savouring those mouth-watering food? At least, my parents still do so after 30 years.]
It is a pity that Bren does not get fat despite the bigger appetite. Maybe, it is his high metabolism? Maybe, it is in the genes? Haha…I have one positive Papa Ed always reminding me “Not yet. But he will grow really big soon and ovetake you in size and height. Wait till that growth splurge comes shortly soon.” Growth Splurge?? Is he going to double or triple in size? Hmm…why do I not really look forward to being “overpowered” by 3 larger-sized men/boys at home soon. “Soon”….when will that be?
