Adventure of His Wedding Ring
In 1997, a happy couple chose and custom made their wedding rings. Wedding bell was in the air. Then only after paying for the wedding rings and putting them on for several days after registering their marriage, the husband realized that his diamond wedding ring was loose. The ring was brought back to the shop for adjustment of the size and to his disappointment nothing could be done to the size since a lengthy wife’s name and wedding date were engraved on the ring. So the husband had to bear with the loose ring and be very conscious about not losing it for many months.
One day, the wife was admitted to hospital. The loving husband came to the hospital with a big paper bag full of the wife’s personal items. Then while talking to the wife, he realized something missing from his finger and then “Oh no, where is my ring?” The wife being in hospital was already upset, added with being upset since day 1 that the ring didn’t fit the husband’s finger well, got more upset at the news that her husband’s wedding ring is finally lost. Luckily, there is always this false alarm and suddenly the wife’s face lit up because the husband had found his wedding ring – it was in the paper bag that he has brought!
After that false alarm, they decided to safeguard that precious “original” wedding ring and the husband put on another new ring without diamond. This time it fit well and though the design varied from the one that is on the wife’s finger, it at least gave both of them the assurance that the ring will be intact on his finger without dropping off. This ring lasted for many years, intact on his finger.
In 2008, the husband and wife set off for a sumptuous dinner with their kids. The wife noted the wedding ring on her husband’s finger while they were driving to their destination. On their way home, it caught her attention that the ring had miraculously disappeared from his finger. It was unlikely for him to remove the ring since they were both outside and the ring should not have slipped out for no reason. Both recollected the possibility of the lost ring and it struck them that the ring must have been, by then, embedded in a pile of crab shells or even chilli gravy! The husband has been so happy savouring his favourite chilli crab and didn’t realize that the wedding band has slipped out while his hands were oily and stained by chilli gravy! This time, the wife was not angry but amused…(hahaha)…that was a costly meal indeed. It was fortunate that he did not end up swallowing his wedding band.
The husband decided to make up to his wife by buying another new ring for himself. So they got his third wedding ring recently in year 2009 after spending time to search for an ideal one. Not loose, not too tight and has close resemblance to the first one. Hopefully, this wedding band will remain on the finger of the husband safely…
I am not sure how many married couples have this similar encounters with theie wedding rings. THIS IS MY VERY OWN TRUE STORY and the adventure of Papa Ed’s wedding rings.

At the very last shop that we patronized, the salesman was sharing with us how couples squabbled or have arguments due to failure to compromise on the ideal wedding rings for both. Is it a must for married couples to put on wedding rings with exactly the same design? To me, that does not matter as long as my husband still respects our marriage to put on his wedding band, as long as we do not have to go on another wedding ring hunting expedition and our original pairs (with names engraved) are still intact, it does not matter whether we are putting on same design. After all, marriage is about respect to each other. So why not respect each other’s wishes to put on the wedding ring that we each truly like and feel comfortable with?
