Bedtime Stories
Reading is never on the priority list of Darren. His top and only priority is to play and have fun…Ha ha. Why not? Just let them enjoy life while they are young!
As I prepare him for admission to primary school next year, I feel that I should start cultivating his interest in reading. It has not been easy as a young kid’s attention span is usually short and unless he is interested to follow the story. It has been an uphill process for me to let him read any longer than 5 pages of story, with big wordings.
Then, I try reading along bedtime stories with him. Reading, with interesting facial expressions and injecting some acting skills, does help. It elevates a kid’s interest in reading, focuses his attention, bonds parent and kids, adds fun and enjoyment, helps a kid in word recognition, prepares him for story-telling and aids in his expression skills. The interesting and colourful illustrations in the books will interest a kid too.
Why not spare a little time at night to also read to your young kids and make it a habit for them to read?
My daughter loves to be read too. My son could take it or leave it. But I bought the scholastic sight word readers and they are not long but very short and I found that worked well with his reading and now the next set I bought was by creative teaching press. But your right a little bit of reading before bed time can go a long way.
Thanks Stacie for sharing:)
