Teachers

Teachers play an important role in our children’s lives. Good teachers encourage learning, share good life values, maintain good communications with parents, maintain impartiality in their attitudes towards all their students, are always approachable towards their students, and are most motivating.

I remember my youngest boy having fear whenever he had to go to school previously. In fact, it was after a while that we noticed that he was discouraged because one of his ex-teachers was openly critical in class because he was a slow starter in reading English and had difficulties grasping the sequence of numbers as a preschooler! With an accumulation of critical remarks and probably impatience, my boy probably got very demoralized and messages were often conveyed to us parents to teach him instead.

My boy has switched school since and I am so glad that he is happy in his current preschool now. In fact, he has also shown vast improvement in his academic progress and the teachers and parents maintain constant communications and school is very receptive to suggestions by parents. I am glad that both my boys have good teachers now. Some teachers are even going extra mile because for my eldest boy, his teacher also puts in additional effort to build an educational blog for his students which I find highly beneficial. Open communications also facilitate parents in understanding the progress of our children.

Darren has chosen these Teachers’ day gifts for both his teachers. As Brendan’s school does not accept paid gifts, we thought it would be more meaningful for him to express his gratitude to his teacher s through self-made cards instead.

Here is wishing all teachers “A Happy Teachers’ Day” on this special day of 1st September!

A little poem by Joanna Fuchs, whom I dedicate to all teachers who have spent their years nurturing our children, giving them the joy of learning and also preparing them for a bright future. I guess the greatest gift a student can give to his/her teachers is to excel in life and impart what he/she has learned to others.

A Teacher for All Seasons

A teacher is like Spring,
Who nurtures new green sprouts,
Encourages and leads them,
Whenever they have doubts.

A teacher is like Summer,
Whose sunny temperament
Makes studying a pleasure,
Preventing discontent.

A teacher is like Fall,
With methods crisp and clear,
Lessons of bright colors
And a happy atmosphere.

A teacher is like Winter,
While it’s snowing hard outside,
Keeping students comfortable,
As a warm and helpful guide.

Teacher, you do all these things,
With a pleasant attitude;
You’re a teacher for all seasons,
And you have my gratitude!

Gift to the world - a wonderful teacher. Curse from hell - a bad one

Children are so impressionable as preschoolers and should never be criticized, but only encouraged in their efforts to learn.

  • My daughter is a teacher at the college level. So I really should say she is an assistant Professor. I am very proud of her because she works so hard to always encourage and support.

Her students do very well in her English classes even if they have always done poorly in other previous English classes.

It is the teacher’s responsibility to create an atmosphere that generates interest, understanding and most especially to critique without shaming or blaming the student.

My husband is dyslexic and to this day even at age 63 he has vivid memories of being bullied and made to feel stupid by some of his teachers because he could not read as fast others.

It is a teachers duty in my opinion to realize just how much they do affect the lives of the children they touch.

They can either help see and realize their gifts or they can also possibly mark someone for life with negative self image!!

I agree that motivating teachers are important. I still remember two of my teachers very distinctly because one of them punished students who did not do their homework by throwing our books out of the window. The other one “slapped” students’ faces with dusters that are “coated with chalk”. It was unimaginable that teachers in the past behaved so and certainly bad for teachers to be remembered in this way especially when they are supposed to be role model and to demonstrate their patience for students. Sigh…I recalled myself having fear to go to school then because of these teachers.
