Our Little Conversation …… #1

I always enjoy talking to my children. Sometimes, we might not be making sense of what they are talking but sometimes their level of maturity might also surprise us. That night,  Brendan was sitting there silently studying when he broke the silence.

Brendan:”Mommy, do you know why I like you?”

I looked at him with a little astonishment.

Brendan: “Because you are pretty.”

Haha, my boy really knows how to lift up my mood with a compliment when he knows that I am busy with the marking of his assessment books and also juggling with some office work . My family members are always so stingy with compliments and it is so rare to get one from them. Maybe just when parents find our kids to be the most adorable, our kids also find us the best looking…*lol*.

Mommy:”Why do you say so?”

Brendan:”Because you are pretty everywhere.”

Straight in my mind, I was wondering why it is so common for a guy to first judge a lady by look. I will not want my boy to judge a person by look.  Or is it a common tactic to praise inorder to get what they want? So I decided to give him a little advice.

Mommy:”Brendan, you do not decide that you like a person just because you find him/her good looking in appearance but he/she must also be pretty in the inside (as in the heart).”

Brendan:”I know. You mean my future wife.”

I looked more surprised this time because he has extended the topic to a WIFE. My intention was generally on the topic of liking anyone. Next our conversation became even more interesting.

Brendan:”I don’t want to have wife and so you don’t have to worry that I choose her by seeing her look only and not her beautiful heart.”

Mommy:”Why don’t you want to have a wife?”

Brendan:”Because then she will ask me to do this and do that and then my children will also make me do things for them.

Mommy:”So you mean a wife (like mommy to papa) and son will burden the husband?

Brendan:”No, I only mean that getting married makes me very busy, like how I make you and papa busy now.”

I sensed that he was thinking about the responsibility as a husband and father and also his dependance on us now as a child.

Brendan:”Also, if I am a pilot and keep flying around, then how can I have a wife?”

Mommy:”Hahaha…so you are really serious to be a pilot? Then you have to take good care of your eyes and don’t lie down and study. By the way, your wife can be a Flight Attendant and then she will be by your side…haha.” *lol*

Brendan:”Aiyo, then she will keep asking me “Coffee or Tea?” and then I how? Hahaha?”

<We were both laughing aloud (with no offence to anytbody) but in Brendan’s past flying experiences, everytime when the Flight Attendant came around asking “Coffee or Tea?”, we were so used to asking for “milo or soya bean?” instead. We learned that only outward bound Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore will serve soya bean…yummy…our favourite.>

So we were engrossed in our conversation and he continued.

Brendan:”Actually, with no wife, I still have family.”

I wanted to share with Brendan the joy of having his own family and kids and so I continued…..

Mommy:”Brendan, we will age and one day mommy and papa will not be able to be by your side. It is great to have your wife and kids for company and someone else who also loves you and whom you love.”

Brendan:”Mommy loves me now and I still have Ahma (grandma) and Ahgong (granddad).”

Mommy:”They cannot live forever too.”

Brendan:”Then I will tag along didi (little brother) and his wife.”

Mommy:”What?”

Brendan:”Haha and share their bed ….hahaha.”

Mommy:”You are so naughty. So if you want to stay with didi and his wife, you have to stop fighting with him now.”

Brendan:”Ok. Final decision. I have found the best girl in the world.”

Mommy:”Really??”

Brendan:”It is you mommy. I want to marry only you. Nobody else will be better than you.”

Mommy:”??????…………..”

We indeed have an enriching and enjoyable conversation.  It is good bonding moment and also to release stress.

Do you also enjoy such little chat with your kid?

Yah Wenn, I wish I have the time to talk to my kids more esp when we spent half of the time working. Hence, I treasure all the time that I have with them, engaging in little conversations.
