Old Man and Teenager

Old man…..

Darren was pinching Papa Ed’s tummy as he said:”Papa, you are old man already.”

Not a very pleasant remark and so Papa Ed asked:”Why you say so? Is it because of my tummy?”

I was seated nearby and asked:”Mommy is also an old woman now if Papa is old man”.

Darren was quick to correct me: “No. Mommy is not old woman. Papa is older than Mommy and so only he is an old man.”

Oh I See! So his definition of old man is someone being older than another one. So, since Brendan is older than him, is his brother also an old man? *LOL*

Teenager….

Then the other day, Brendan was saying teenager is aged from thirteen to nineteen. We looked at him amusingly because he has been bringing up the topic of TEENAGER several times. Sometimes, he cannot wait to be one. Sometimes, he does not wish to grow up.

So, I asked: “Why do you say teenager is aged from thirteen to nineteen?”

Brendan replied very confidently:”Because thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, all these words end with the word “TEEN”. That is why before thirteen, they named it as “Ten, Eleven, Twelve”. So I am three years from being a Teenager.”

As he spoke, his face was beaming with excitement - EXCITEMENT OF being a TEEN:)

Oh I See! So that is how a child is being differentiated as a CHILD and TEENAGER, simply by how the ages are spelt.  I don’t know how he deduced this definition but somehow it makes sense:)

[When a kid is interested about certain topic, he will persistently find out more about it or use his creative observation to deduce.]
