Australia Vacation at Tangalooma : Close Encounter with Wild Dolphins

We have seen dolphins a number of times.  Most of them at performances and they are trained.  These trained dolphins seemed to have built some kind of “chemistry” with their trainers.

To be with WILD DOLPHINS and have a chance to feed and touch them, it was a first time for our family!  Our close encounters with these wild dolphins were made possible when we visited Tangalooma *smile*.

Interestingly, the same group of wild dolphins visits Tangalooma jetty every night.  They have been named Echo, Storm, Bobo, Tinkerbell, Rani, Nari, Tangles, Shadow and Silhouette.  I guess it is natural instinct for them to frequent the same spot - knowing there is food.

These lovely ”stars of the night” are not shy to visitors and  they respond well to feeding, warm touch and photography by humans.

Unfortunately, our boys were chilled by the cold weather and water at night  over at the Island. So, only Papa Ed had the privilege to get really close to these dolphins. Though just a short encounter, it was a worthwhile experience afterall especially when our Papa Ed has a special affection for water and sea animals *haha*.

Wonderful encounter especially Ed had the privilege of touching them! Last year, we visited Australia and also saw the dolphin but in the day and we did not managed to get too close to them.

WOW… So nice to be able to “meet” those dolphins in the wild! :)

  • it must be amazing to be able to get up close and personal with wild dolphins albeit the freezing cold water.

Me and my girls love dolphins so much! I promised her that I will bring her to this place to have the personal contact with the dolphins:-)

    Hi ECL,

It was that cold wind at night that chilled even their spine. Penguin Island in Melbourne will definitely be a future holiday spot for us but for now it is to Penguin wonderland in Singapore:)

    Hi Michael,

It is always an amazing happiness for us when we could feed these animals:) Actually, Ed only managed to have a quick touch because the main program was actually to feed them.

    Hi Jus,

It is the smart instinct of these wild dolphins and how they can grow close to humans that warm our hearts:)

    Hi Life Ramblings,

Yes…especially for sea animal lovers. Isn’t it wonderful to live in a country with plenty of these wild lives?

  • Denesa says:

    Hi Joanne,

I am not sure whether these wild dolphins will frequent the island during all seasons though. The main program at the island with wild dolphins is “feeding” the wild dolphins with fish.

Awesome encounter with the wild dolphins. Is it a “guaranteed” experience when u signed up for the island stay? For whale watching (I can’t rmbr whr), it depends on ur luck if u can c them.
