Keen Followers of TV Drama
Ha! Ha! If you are residing in Singapore, you might be following the extremely long-lasting Taiwan TV Drama “LOVE” which has been continuously airing on our TV screens every evening for many months already (500 over episodes by now) and still many months to go! Though I do not watch it, I am getting an overdose of my mom and friends telling me the story and then my sons singing the chorus of the theme song every now and then *LOL*.
[My boys do not follow the TV drama on "LOVE" but having to hear the theme song being played every evening while they are dining, it is enough to set them singing the chorus "I ask Heaven, I ask Heaven..." *haiz*.]
I guess once you are “hooked” to a TV drama, it can become really addictive. At least, it happens to my parents and now it is happening to my boys.
This is what I mean…..
For a few months, our elder boy has become a keen follower of locally produced Chinese TV dramas.
At 9pm on weekdays - nobody, no activity can distract him from following those TV series.
Then, similarly at 9pm on weekdays - our younger boy followed suit and became glued to the TV too, watching the same TV program.
Don’t ask me why they are so attracted to these TV dramas when logically they should favour cartoons and kids’ programs. I don’t know either. One advantage, though, is that they could improve their mandarin by listening to more mandarin spoken over TV.
So, they followed the story of police investigation, then the story of family gossips, then the story of three lady private detectives, and then more.
[Papa and Mommy are not followers of chinese productions although we admit that WE "the two adults" at home are guilty of being the night owls who stay up late at night to catch those US TV packs on Mio TV *lol*.]
This is what I mean - when the boys are glued to the TV for that 1-hour on most weekdays
That is not all for our boys.
If they ever miss one episode, they will grumble, sigh and then never hesitate to catch up with that missed episode on xinmsn.com. More interestingly, the brothers form a karaoke team by singing theme songs of these TV dramas …anytime, anywhere..
Though I do not really follow Chinese shows, I have started to join in to watch these TV series with them as much as I could afford the time…to ensure parental guidance.
LOL. So, now we have 2 TV addicts at 9pm and a follower. I hope I won’t need to join the boys soon to form that karaoke trio too!
[I believe the boys will get out of this "night TV watching habit" soon because the last time I recall, we were committed to YOGA sessions together at the same time slot at night. Perhaps, I could entice them to be back to the YOGA routines again with those candles, calming scents and soft music.]
I love to watch Spore Drama serials…currently I am following on eof the Spore drama in Astro Aec..It is old drama by Zoe Tay and other actor/actress,but the storyline is very good and touching.
I was once a TV drama addict, not a healthy way to pass time. lol
I follow “LOVE” sometimes as well and it could be quite addictive although not too healthy for kids. However, watching Chinese channel is one why to get them interested in Chinese.
Hi Mery,
Wow! So they are airing the old serials of Spore chinese drama at your place. I like those dramas by Zoe Tay too:)
Hi ECL,
Now, it is less TV serials and more PC activities for me. Still a rectangular box and both equally unhealthy:(
Hi Michael,
Oh! So you follow “LOVE”? There are too much scheming plots in that drama and so I am deterring my kids from watching and learning the wrong behaviours. However, for adults, I agree the plots are definitely entertaining and dramatic and that really got my dad hooked to the TV:)
