Optimist or Pessimist
A motivational quote which I like:
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity;
An optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
[Winston Churchill]
Someone once told me that I should regard crisis as an opportunity to change things for the better. I tried and it turned out true. Learning to look at things on the bright side, will help in concurring any difficulty in life.
Others foresee difficulties in every new challenge that they have to undertake. In our everyday life, we would have come across people who would hold lots of concerns and Say No even before they embark on anything new or different.
In parenting, our attitudes to behave optimistically or pessimistically - do influence the young ones’ outlook of life. So, we have to consciously watch our attitudes and be optimistic, in order to cultivate this spirit in the young ones too.

In this case, Brendan taking the opportunity "up" rock-climbing. Yes, he was concerned that he might fall before he embarked. However, he went ahead to take the first step up and then the second step and then more. The result is - he gains confidence and by grabbing the opportunity, he learns that he can overcome a difficult task with "effort, courage and optimism".
true, have confidence and things will work out.
you’re absolutely right. it’s important for us to help children gain confidence which benefits them on life skills and building self-esteem.

Halo Wenn, Life Ramblings and Mama Mia - Very true indeed. Things wil work out eventually as long as we have confidence. Somehow our mindset controls our actions.
Hi Ed - I enjoy being around optimistic people too. Somehow, their positive spirits keep us motivated:)
Hi Angeline - Abit paisei cos I need to also constantly remind myself to motivate my kids to stay positive:) They are still young to understand but as parents we have to keep trying.
