Parenting: Conscious Parenting
When I first chose to be a parent, I had been prepared for a GREAT responsibility.
As parents, we find magical strength in working extremely hard to give our children a comfortable life, we make huge adjustments to our lives, we strive to spend more quality time with our children amidst our forever busy schedule, we try our very best to make sure that we give them a good headstart in life and much more……
Then, as we get conscious, we realise that there is the other part of our PARENTING RESPONSIBILITY that makes it equally SIGNIFICANT to bring up our children to be a generation of tomorrow who is also filled with good internal qualities and with right attitude in life.
And this other part of the GREAT RESPONSIBILITY, I would say, is the most challenging.
Because it means, as parents, we have to CONSCIOUSLY be AWARE and refrain from our bad attitude in life and our negative behaviours.
[Yes, every action we take, our children are watching us. Every word we say, our children are listening. A wrong step we take and it is not difficult for our children to remember.]
Often, it becomes too LATE when we note a resemblance of our negative behaviours and attitude in our children.
To maintain that constant state of CONSCIOUS PARENTING is far from easy.
Seriously, I am striving to improve my score for this but as parents, we do need that constant reminder and self-reflection too. There are just many situations and factors in life that lead to us not being able to practise what we preach.
Hope this youtube is useful in sharing with parents our responsibility in ”Conscious Parenting”. I like it because it makes me more conscious.
ya, we are the role model for our kids.
We as parents are models for our children. They usually grow up and picked up some habits or behaviours we have, good or bad. Therefore, you are right that we should be conscious of our actions especially in front of them.
I always make huge efforts to find ways to engage and have lots of time with my family. One reason for setting up my blog is also getting to know what activities available in Singapore so that I could participate in some interesting ones together with them. Holidays are coming and I will be spending almost 2 months daily with them and finding opportunities to influence them positively. Thanks for your sharing!
Hi Michael and Wenn,
You are right about parents having to be role model for our kids. When we got caught up in our own emotions, it tends to get difficult to be a role model. We are fast to judge and criticise our children, we overlook that we might be in a way the cause for their behaviours or actions. There is no model answer to teach parents how to be that ideal role model but we try our best.
