Gift Tradition

Well, who doesn’t like to be remembered during their birthdays?  Not to mention loved ones, don’t we feel touched even if we were to receive a simple “Happy Birthday” wish from a friend or relative whom we seldom contact in our busy days?

My father-in-law was sharing with us that we should inculcate in our kids the tradition of GIVING during Birthdays of our loved ones.

He is right!

It is not about the value of the gift and the extent of giving.

It is to teach our kids to always spare a loving thought for our dear ones and to let them know that they are never forgotten on their important days.

The gift might be small, it might not be bought or it might be just a gesture. No matter what it is  - It is a way to bond as a FAMILY.

I really hope our boys will continue this tradition of giving for a long time to come. And, we must start by example, right?

By the way, “Happy Birthday to Ah Gong (my dad)!”.

[ Today is my dad's birthday. My dad always prefers a low profile celebration but we have never forgotten his birthday:)]

While mommy gives the traditional ang pao, our boys will never neglect the fact that they have to show their gratitude to grandpa who takes very good care of their stomachs everyday and tolerates theit tantrum and nonsense.

See what they have made for Ah Gong….Loving thoughts that money cannot buy….They are heaps of good health and happiness for Ah Gong (grandpa). Somehow, they seem to gather that my dad loves sheep…haha:)

Happy Birthday to Ah Gong! Does Ah Gong happen to be born in the year of the sheep? hehehe

    Thanks Michael:)

    Hi Slavemom,

100 marks to you! Yes, that is his birth year. The boys do not know though. All they know is my mom keeps telling them that their Ah Gong likes “meh…..meh…..” (sound of a goat)! Haha. Yeah, Brendan tends to be very neat in his writing. As for Darren, it depends on his mood. But some of the Chinese characters, I scribbled for them on a paper and they copied.

By the way, thanks for the warm wishes. Really thoughtful of all of you:)

My, what a lovely tradition. It’s one which my dad taught me at an early age, too. In fact, I can recall the exact moment and words he used the first time he instilled the message within me. One which I have carried with me all these years, and hope to share with my children too!

    Hi Ann,

Your dad taught you well. I hope my kids can carry on the tradition of giving too for a long time….
