Burning Arts

I am intrigued by an artist at work.

At least, I have gone through instances when an artist’s professionalism, skilful hands, creativity and deep concentration at work has kept me captivated for a while - watching a great piece of artwork being created.

I feel that it is useful to open the world of our boys to art creations that are made possible with just simple tools, creative imaginations and skills. It is certainly also educational to enable our boys to learn the culture behind Chinese Arts and Crafts.

We didn’t have the opportunity when we visited China.

Then, when we came across the Chinese Arts and Crafts Showcase currently held at Vivo City from 14 Jan to 21 Feb, I didn’t believe that our boys could actually spend two hours with us at the exhibition, showing interest as well *grin*.

Amongst others, there were the bean arts, stone carving, burning arts, portrait drawing, egg paintings and jewellery making.

The “burning arts” artist was creating his works ”live” at the exhibition. We spent most of our time there watching every moment when he was creating the art pieces that we specially ordered to be customised to our family’s zodiac animals.

With a simple tool that emits heat, he created the painting through the art of “burning”. Each stroke comes with much experience and precision.  Besides on paper, burning arts can be created on wood too (except that it comes with a higher cost).

The artist can customise the zodiac animal combinations and add computer, books, carrots etc. for the zodiac animals according to our requests. Certainly, we do not mind him drawing more gold ingots *haha*.

Besides zodiac animals, he can create other drawings too like eg.  those auspicious Chinese paintings of mountains, birds, fish and others like flowers, greeneries and Chinese Literature.

Then with sponge and water colours, he added the colours.

For our purchases, our boys got two free customised bookmarks, with their Chinese names and Chinese zodiac animals, from the artist too *smile*.
