Funny and Touching

Children often add that extra joy, laughter and emotional sentiments in our lives. Through their eyes, I see myself when I was young or those moments that I wish I could also have during my childhood.

There are always those funny things that the kids do that bring much laughter in our lives.  Not too long ago, I decided to play along with Brendan.

Brendan : “Mummy, can you do me a flavor?”

Mummy <amused by the wrong use of word “flavor” and “favor”>: “Can you repeat what you say?”

Brendan: “Mummy, can you do me a flavor?”

Mummy <decided to play along with him>:”What flavor do you want? Sweet, sour…?”

Brendan <sensing that he must have said the wrong word, started laughing>:”Please, can you help me?”

Mummy:”You should say do me a favor and not flavor.”

I went on defining the word “flavor” to him. Alas, Brendan has learnt a new word and the correct way to use the sentence, in a fun way:)

Yesterday, Darren was reading aloud from a story book when he realized that the words and picture on the adjacent page was printed upside down.  Very innocently, he was wondering how to continue reading, with words printed upside down. Since he is still in his initial step to make out words in a whole story, such printing has caused him some confusion. He was probably disorientated.

Two adjacent pages....

Two adjacent pages....

The next minute, the words and picture have become upside down.

The next minute, the words and picture have become upside down.

Darren <in his not so perfect English>:”Mummy, you see the words become the other side. How I read?”

Mummy <initially amused by the question with simple solution>:”What do you think you should do?”

Darren looked at me puzzled.

Mummy: ”Should you change your seating position and move your body to read the words or what should you do?”

Darren was so cute because for a moment he was trying to move himself to the other side of the table and even maneuver his head in order to read the texts and not simply by just changing the orientation of the book!  I enjoyed his cute solutions and stepped in shortly to show him the simple solution to just turn over the book and we had another good laugh:)

I have always enjoyed the close bonding between the kids and myself and how I wish this bonding could remain even when the boys grow up. Those little moments of hugs they are still willing to extend to mummy and those little kisses they throw on my face, are gestures that I often remind myself not to take for granted. The boys will grow up one day and these will be the moments that I will treasure.

I value all the moments on every weekday morning when Brendan will come over to my bed and give me a good morning greeting and when Darren will stand at the gate of his school waving goodbye to me till our car gets out of sight. Hee…hee..apparently, he is the only boy in school who has to complete the routine of waving goodbye to parents continuously even though he has settled down very well in school.

There are many more of such beautiful moments in my life with the kids and they are part and parcel of everything that makes motherhood so much more fun and motivating.
