Running For His Life
It will be Singapore’s National Day soon on 9th August. Each year, weeks before the nation’s birthday, beautiful fireworks will be displayed at Marina on Saturday nights. In past years, when the fireworks were displayed at the Kallang Stadium, we were able to enjoy the beautiful displays right at our home. This is how my boys get acquainted with fireworks and how they fall in love with it. Though we have never been able to get the tickets to watch the National Day Parade, we have been bringing our boys to join the crowd where the beautiful displays will be set off right before our eyes, that is either at One Fullerton or the open area of Marina Square.
Last Saturday, we decided to change a venue and went to Marina Barrage instead, hoping to catch a glimpse of the short moment of fireworks and also beautiful night scene there. OMG! I have never imagined Marina Barrage to be so thronged with crowd at night! We were not able to park our car anywhere in Marina Barrage or anywhere nearby at all! In fact, the side of long stretch of road leading to the Barrage is also parked with cars and traffic police were there to coordinate the traffic. Fortunately, we managed to get a lot, which is still a long walking distance from the Barrage, just to catch that spectacular but short-lived moment of fireworks – all because my boys enjoy it.
Then the waiting, together with a crowd who was also awaiting the moment, and then alas it was a disappointment. The view was blocked by tall new constructions from afar and then next we had Papa Ed “running for his life”! Haha, it was actually quite funny because while everybody else was having full concentration on the display, Papa Ed suddenly sped towards me from afar with a camera in his hand and caught us staring at him in great amazement. I was thinking “What is this man doing, speeding like this for the first time in his life and why is he not taking photographs?” In fact, he was shouting “Close the car door! Close the door and go inside!” Oh mine, I thought we were gonna be attacked by missiles or firework sparks *Grrrrrr*. Then as we both jumped into our car seats, others also started shouting and running and then I saw a heavenly downpour onto my car. Oh no, it had started to rain heavily. So, Papa Ed was running for his life from a rain parcel that he saw travelling towards us, from afar *lol*. Thanks to the bright lights and also Papa Ed or we would all be drenched!
It was a disappointing night due to the not so ideal view but it was definitely a very funny adventure that we had, running away from “unknown threat at first” and then later turned out to be a heavy rain! *rofl*.
lol.. that was a funny moment.
Haha….That was funny:)
