Shhhh — Silence Please
The hardest wish to achieve when you have two lively young boys at home is SILENCE. From verbal arguments, to shouting, to rattling nonsense, to simply conversations (that we adults sometimes could hardly make any sense), to sound effects and the list goes on…….the boys could hardly stay quiet especially when they are together. It is weird how we have tried to ask them to give some peace but the message never seems to get across. Sometimes, we wish that there is a button to either turn down the volume or keep them quiet for 5 minutes. Sometimes, the noise level rises when the Disciplinarian at home also stepped in with loud commanding voice to control the rowdy boys *Oh No*
Someone once told me that it is common for kids to be rowdy and I should be worried instead if they are quiet or inactive. She said noisy means happy, active and lively children, and so why restricts them? Well…I agree to some extent but yet the noise can be unbearable at times especially when we parents need some peace to concentrate or simply rest.
The other day when I was on medical leave at home and the boys were in school, I started to feel STRANGE to the extreme silence at home. Few days ago, the boys were having dinner and there was total quietness. The immediate thought that came to our mind was “What happened to the boys? Why are they so quiet suddenly when they are always engaged in active conversation during the meals, no matter how we ask them to keep quiet?” “Are they sick? Are they on bad terms?” “Are they still there?”
Whether we like it or not, life with my two noisy but beloved boys has got us accustomed to noise and although we are trying all means to control the noise level, we are also unexpectedly uncomfortable when there is SILENCE or when they are not by our sides *Haiz*
