Children “At Work”
For working parents, how many of your employers allow you to bring your children to work? Do your Companies organise activities that involve your family members eg. Family Day?
In Singapore, the long school vacation has just begun. Yes…while some children are excited about the line of activities that are awaiting them, some are already missing their schoolmates. For my eldest boy, he is worried that he might get bored at home since it will be a while since he will meet his friends again.
Some parents have made plans to keep their children occupied by going on overseas vacations. Others enrol for camps and activities for their kids. Some parents reserve their annual leave till now so that they can clear it at this time to spend more time with their children. Other children find fun engaging themselves in activities with their peers.
For working parents like me, we would welcome our Companies’ good gesture to organise events or activities for employees’ children especially during the school holidays. In my previous Company, my boy joined me at work sometimes during the school vacation. In another Company, classes like creative art, were arranged in the work premise for employees’ children during the school vacation.
Likewise, I am happy that my current Company has a Work-Life Ambassador who plans insightful parenting talks and also arranges visiting trip for our children. Coming up soon, on one of the days in December, my two boys will be able to join me at work - to understand more about mommy’s office environment, make new friends and also benefit from the short courses that they have arranged.
The boys are already all excited about it! It is heartening to see more employers and Companies embracing welfare initiatives for their employees, and certainly those on Work-Life Harmony:) AGREE? So, what are your views on employers doing more to support Work-Life Harmony…….relating to Work-Life balance for family or staff welfare?
i think it’s a great initiative for companies to organize such events to get the parent-child bond off to a great year. :)
That’s a rare good company you work with Denesa. Many of local Singapore companies still have the old way of running the business. Enjoy your quality time! :)
Yes…more companies should promote and support work-life balance:) Hope you will all enjoy the long festive weekend in Singapore and Malaysia. Cheers:)
I think that it is a great idea for parent and their children to spent time together at work. These children will get to see that mommy or daddy have to work hard, and still fine time to make the children happy along with their boss.
