Prize Giving Day
20 November 2009 was a memorable day for the family and especially for my eldest boy, Brendan.
It was the day when Brendan went up the school stage to receive a Certificate and Prize for achieving the 1st position in class, for good academic performance in 2009. So the school year ends off well for Brendan.
How does Brendan feel?
I started a little conversation with him on his feelings and whether he should be complacent over his achievement. And…I must say I really feel proud of him. Not only because he does well academically but most importantly is:
- I am glad that he understands that he should not look down on others
- I am glad that he knows that hard work will pay off and he should continue to work hard
- I am glad that he feels that he should help friends in their school work
- I am glad that he knows that he should not boast about his achievement
How does Mommy feel?
Parents will naturally feel proud of their kids for performing well. “Well done my Boy! Keep Up the Good Work!”
An inspirational quote that I would like to convey to my kids are:
“Doing your best to excel is not the only goal in life;
What is important is that you enjoy the journey of learning;
Develop yourself from all the hard work and perseverance;
Achieve with good spirits and integrity;
Share your knowledge with others;
Extend your strength in helping those in need;
Continue to improve yourself ;
And not forgetting that you should also gear yourself to develop other skills and characters.”

WOW! First in class! Well done, Brendan! I still remember you wrote about exam stress in one of your posts. Looks like your worries are unfounded, mummy. :)
very inspiring indeed..
Thanks Wenn, Lui and Lek.
Ing, I was surprised that he came in 1st. It is a mother’s aspiration for her child to perform well. However, we have never forced him that he must be the best in everything he does, as long as he puts in his best efforts. I guess as parents, we set our expectations based on their abilities and performance. If we ascertain that they can do better, we will help in setting higher targets so that the child can continously seek for improvements. There tends to be a stress for kids when it comes to exam preparation unless they do not need to prepare at all (*haha*). Sometimes, we parents get more stressed than our kids, just as if we were the ones attending the exam *ohoh*.
Congrats to your son. You must be really proud.
congratulations to Brendan! ;)
