River Hong Bao 2010

Very fast. Tomorrow will be the Lunar 15th Day or the last day that we celebrate the Lunar New Year.

It has been so many years since we visited the yearly River Hong Bao celebration, an event which ushers in the Lunar New Year. So the other day, we made our way to the Marina Bay Floating Platform for the River Hong Bao 2010.

I always love the view at the Singapore River. As it has been for many days, fortunately, it was not too crowded.

It is the year of the mighty Tiger. So it is not surprisingly to see statues of Tiger as the main feature here.

This year ... being the year of the Tiger

More tigers......Haha, Brendan in the picture "scratching his head".

Wow! We are fortunate to have such a gigantic God of Fortune watching over us *LOL*. The construction of the soon-to-be ready and much awaited for Marina Bay Sands . Click to know more about the up-and-coming Marina Bay Sands, Asia’s newest spectacular attraction - here in Singapore.

The River Hong Bao event is never complete without beautiful displays.

We cannot understand why the "dancers" are backfacing us. Perhaps, the beautiful peacocks outshine them. Nevertheless, still a colourful and vibrant display and centre piece

I helped the boys to identify their chinese horoscope signs. We had a Fun time as we really could not make out which animal is which. This is what I mean…..

There are 12 chinese horoscope signs. Brendan borned in the year of Rabbit. Oops! We thought the Rabbit looks like a thin pig at first.

One thorough look and we discovered "Oh No! This, then, is the horoscope sign of the pig" - not the earlier picture. Why do I feel that this pig looks more like a cow, with its white colour and black spots ?

Aha! This is definitely the Goat - Darren's chinese horoscope sign. However, our little boy didn't seem enthusiastic posing next to it.

It seemed like our little boy prefers the rooster or being carried by Papa.

To make the event complete, there are stalls selling products from China and Chengdu delicacies.  Then, we are really blessed with luck as we won ourselves 4 free “1-day cruise tickets” by just buying 4 sets of Chinese newspapers :) I still don’t believe it …till now. Not till we successfully booked the dates though Papa Ed convinced me that he had sought confirmation from the cruise company. We paid S$3.20 for 4 cruise tickets…Unbelievable.

Unfortunately, Chinese culture is somehow “alien” to our young children today.  I hope to let them learn more about our roots and culture inherited from our ancestors.  This trip might not have been a big eye-opener but slowly they will get to learn more.
