China’s Terracotta Warriors - In Singapore
We dropped by the Asian Civilisations Museum again for a second time. This time to view the exhibition on “Terracotta Warriors: The First Emperor and His Legacy“.
With the opportunity of viewing China’s real statues of TERRACOTTA WARRIORS in Singapore, Brendan was definitely very excited about it.
[China has flown in 100 artefacts from Qin and Han Dynasty and 10 statues, made of low-fired clay, for display at this exhibition. The statues include a general, a horse, infantrymen, two archers, a cavalry officer and a charioteer. These statues were first discovered in the tomb complex of the First Emperor of China, Qing Shi Huang, in 1974 and creating world news as one of the greatest archeological discoveries of the 20th century. The Terracotta Warriors were created to protect the tomb of Emperor Qin.]
Being a first time that these statues are showcased in Southeast Asia, there was a long queue when we visited the exhibition last Saturday. With an admission fee of S$8 per adult (admission for children is free), we paid only S$8 for two adults (I think it is due to the discount given for Passion Card Holder) and our two boys:)
Although our little Darren was not really appreciative of the exquisite artefacts/statues and the educational purpose of the trip, he was not totally bored as he viewed through the real arrows and weapons used during the Qin Dynasty.
The Giant and the Dwarf *hee*
Bronze crane - found at the First Emperor’s tomb complex
Limestone armour of the Qin Dynasty - It must be overly heavy!
Brendan, as usual, did not take the chance to miss out any descriptions next to the exhibits. Papa Ed was occuiped with the iPhone application specially designed such that when the iPhone’s camera is focused on a marker, a virtual Terracotta Warrior will crawl out and even shoot at us on his screen *ha*.
We spent a meaningful and educational 1.5 hour there and enjoyed two rounds of the ice-cream ( from the ice-cream man on motor cycle) outside the museum. Cheap and Yummy:)
For those who are interested to view the exhibits, the exhibition will be on till 16 October 2011.
