Life’s Reflections (5): Be Happy
“HAPPINESS is found more in GIVING than RECEIVING,
HAPPINESS is there in our everyday lives as long as we learn to appreciate what we have,
For HAPPINESS is a positive feelings that we choose to have and treasure,
Not the extent of our GAINS and QUESTS that we have achieved,
And not the positive feelings that others can steal from us as long as we choose not to be affected.”
- PARENT TIMES-

Just next to my PC, is this ”Happy Cow” that has accompanied me for many years.
It grins at me when I am at the most battled parts of my life and it grins at me at those impossible times when I cry in my heart to give up.
When I forget to stay happy no matter what or get a little greedier in my feelings, you know what it will say to me?
“Cheer Up Buddy, Be Happy! Loosen up and be a little crazier and that is where the fun is!
Hey! Happiness is there with you everyday! Just feel deep inside you, with your heart and soul. Stop searching high and low and reaching out beyond your means!
Look forward to being happy and allow nobody to take away that from you, no matter how battled you are.”
[Haha! Of course, it is not possible to talk to an ornament. However, it is always useful to self-reflect sometimes and look for that inspirational help:)]
As humans, we often have to “Be reminded not to take things or people for granted” AND ”Learn to also Treasure and Give” - These are what bring us that accumulations of happiness everyday. Have we forgotten to look close enough?
Why do we often hear people say:”I am not happy with my pay”, “My parents are not giving me enough freedom”, “I am disappointed that I did not get the XXX as my birthday gift.”?
Why not say:”Though my pay is not up to market rate, I am happy that I am given a job”, “I am happy to have parents who really love me deeply” and “My greatest happiness is that you are able to be here to celebrate my birthday with me”?
So, what is HAPPINESS to YOU?
Yes, thinking positively will not make us groan and moan endlessly…
when I came back from Penang today, it made me see life at a different perspective again… lets treasure life!
Contentment is a true wealth. great reminder Denesa :)
Life is too short to always be sad and miserable. be happy and content in life.
Positive thinking is always needed. ????.
Hi Claire,
We tend to see life in a different perspectives when we encounter an ordeal and experience a down time if life. Learning to be complacent is a positive skill in life.
Hi VS,
We tend to stray from contentment so often that we need that constant reminders and reflections. I am one guilty one too.
Hi Life Ramblings,
My hubby said the same thhing to me too.
Hi Michael,
Positive thinking tends to be contaminated by negative happenings and negative people around us. Most of the time, we choose to be affected. Haha, sometimes it is funny that my elder son has to remind me to stay positive. So, that is how we inspire our loved ones and others in life:) Cos we tend to forget to look at ourselves.
Very well said, Denesa!
I couldn’t agree more with your positive outlook on life that leads to happiness. Being grateful for the abundance in your life and giving of that abundance are two big keys to leading a happy life.
I agree that it isn’t always easy to think positive but because we have free-will it is always possible to change our negative thoughts into positive, happier thoughts. I encourage everyone to try this experiment for a few days. Try to be aware of your daily thoughts and everytime you have a negative thought, see the positive side to it or accept the negative thought and simply replace it with a happy thought. You will be surprised at how many negative thoughts are going through your head every day that you aren’t currently aware of. Try it out and I promise you will see a difference in your life.
Thanks for this amazing post!
