Mother’s Day and What Makes A Mother Happy in Life
“M” is for the million things she gave me,
“O” means only that she’s growing old,
“T” is for the tears she shed to save me,
“H” is for her heart of purest gold;
“E” is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
“R” means right, and right she’ll always be,
Put them all together, they spell
“MOTHER,”
A word that means the world to me
(Poem on M-O-T-H-E-R, authored by : Howard Johnson)
Mother’s Day is round the corner. Though it is a special day popularly celebrated around the world, we might not have understood the origins and true meaning behind this occasion.
“The origins of a specific Mother’s Day go all the way back to the 16th century and the practice of visiting one’s “mother church” once a year. On that day, dark ages moms would be reunited with their children at church. In the United States, a mother and social activist, Julia Ward Howe worked to create a Mother’s Day for Peace day during the Civil War in an attempt to organize mothers against war. It was not until 1914 that President Woodrow Wilson declared the first national Mother’s Day to honor mothers whose sons had died in war. In some parts of the country, it is traditional to wait until Mothers Day to plant tomatoes. Since then, Mother’s Day has gone on to become the most popular day of the year to dine out in a restaurant and to make long distance phone calls and May is the biggest month for florists. Mother’s Day is celebrated around the world, though the actual date changes depending on the country.”

In my own version, everyday is a Mother’s Day as long as the children hold their mothers dear and close in their hearts. However, not everyday will a child express his/her gratitude to his/her mother. Mother’s day presents the chance for a daughter/son to show his/her love and appreciation for a mother’s greatest love, upbringing and sacrifice.
To me, my kids are probably too young to understand or initiate a celebration of this special occasion with their mummy. …yah…. hmmm…unless daddy, teacher or grandparents give them a little tips. However, what really presents as the greatest happiness/satisfaction to me, as a mother, from my kids are:
1) Those little achievements in my kids’ lives
2) Every new milestone that they make
3) Every credit or compliment that they receive
4) Every laughter and sign of happiness that I see on their faces everyday
5) Every little encouragement and hug that they give to me
6) Every little new and courageous step that they take
7) Every good manner that they show
8 Staying cooperative and obedient at last (although it is natural for kids to be naughty and playful)
9) All’s in the pink of health
10) The joy, accomplishment and “education” that they have given me – and hence making a “BETTER” me.
These are the things that matter most and make everyday a “Happy Mother’s Day” to me.
In fact, I would like to say these to my two boys:
“Brendan and Darren, it is you who make mummy’s days Joyful, Entertaining and Fulfilling, and you have enabled mummy to be a even better person in life.
Interacting with you everyday has let me feel and stay younger;
Learning with you has made me more knowledgeable;
Talking with you has given me the greatest pleasure in life;
Sharing your achievements has made me feel proud;
Nuturing you has given me the confidence for your future;
Having you has given me much wealth in life – wealth of happiness, wealth of experience, wealth of hope….
Motherhood has taught me the values of patience, responsibility, impartiality, unconditional love, sensibility and tolerance;
Just like the sun will never stop shining everyday, you have been and will always be my sunshine and hence it is you who will continue to make mummy’s daily life happy and cheerful and hence “A Happy Mother’s Day” everyday.
Here are some meaningful mother’s day saying:
“The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.”
“A man’s work is from sun to sun, but a mother’s work is never done.”
KUDOS to MOTHERS! Here I am wishing every GREAT MOTHER in the world “Joy Everyday and Happy Motherhood” as we hold the same motivation of seeing our children happy and excel in life.
