Making A New Move In Life

I am COUNTING DOWN.

To the day when I no longer have to hold double forts - at home and at work.

*Phew*.

Looking forward to :

Spending more day time at home than at work.

Not having to fret about work while at home.

Contributing much more to our boys like cooking their favourite dishes and spending a quality time with them everyday over the upcoming June holidays.

Occupying my time in other ways.

Honestly, I do feel a sense of loss and apprehensiveness.

I will miss those days when I could spend more freely, those usual days when I could have a good chat with colleagues during lunch, those days when we know that our effort at work is rewarded when we receive those fat bonuses, and those days when I could have an excuse for hubby to help share out more housework load *haha*.

Friends were surprised that I would make the decision to sacrifice my career and compromise my career prospect.

Some were teasing me that I take an easier way out to be a “Tai Tai” (rich man’s wife who enjoys life).  I told them that I will be more of a domestic helper than “Tai Tai”.

With a few change of jobs earlier, I have been hardworkingly seated at this workstation for almost five years.

Right or wrong choice I don’t know.

What I know is that it strikes me that I have reached the stage of my life when I have a different set of priorities.

I am going to spend quality time with my pre-teen boy and younger one because I don’t want to regret later that I couldn’t turn back the clock. I want to do those things in my life that I have postponed for so long.

I know of many mothers who stay home but still maximizing their time and multi-tasking in  every way.

Probably, as I go along and have the opportunity to compare, I will be able to share personal  insights of a stay-at-home mom vs career mom. I believe each is fulfilling in its own way:)

Suddenly, I feel like a great weight has been taken off me.

All these years, I have been taking care of so many people and now finally, I can concentrate fully on family and myself.

Yeah. I am going to take a short break from work,  just a few months and experience a new lifestyle. Then join the workforce again.

So for friends and family members, who still find it a pity and judging that I am wasting my university degree and career, no worries please and I badly need a break from the routine cycle of life.

But then. Who knows? If I get too comfortable, I might be too lazy to get back to work *hehe*.  As long as it is a happy choice….

Knowing me, I believe I might be busier than ever in the days ahead because there is so much I wish to accomplish in the short career break after ten over years, juggling with excelling in career and family especially after I have two kids and a hubby who used to travel so often.

If you have the chance to take short break from work (say 1 to 3 months), what would you choose to do?

Good on you for taking the brave step. I think if one has a choice, it’s great to step away from the working world and be there for our children, after all, you know that kids are only young once. Good luck with your new adventure. I did the same over two years ago, and took a 3 year career break to be home for my two girls. No regrets!

Brave and good move. If I could afford to give out my job, I would do the same. Time does not wait for anyone and having quality time with your children could not be delayed as well. Great decision. Wish you the best and I am guessing you will blog more then ;)

All the best in your new adventure in life!

  • Hi there, I had 2 career breaks, one in 2009 (2 months!) and one in 2010 (1.5 month). I purposely timed my new jobs so I could have a long break in between as I had been working non-stop for more than a decade! So, I started a homelearning routine for my 2 girls in 2009, and till now, still going on strong :)
