Parenting is A Learning Process

Parenting is often a learning process. It is a journey that parents take together with their children, learning from mistakes and striving to be better along the way.

As I have mentioned in my earlier post, parents cannot teach our children the correct values in life if we are not setting good examples or displaying behaviour or attitude in life. In today’s society, children have the opportunities to learn more things than what we had learnt in our time.

In fact, I have much to learn from my 9-year old son especially when he is definitely more musically and mathematically inclined, has better sense of direction, very much aware of local news, and definitely very good with electronics gadgets. I often laugh at myself when Brendan is able to help us find our way when we are lost and share with me news that I am too busy to catch up. I am surprised that young children nowadays can discuss topics of interest to adults. When my boys start joining in our conversations on electronic gadgets like iPhone, on movie making and places of interest, I always stare at them with surprise because children now are definitely very advanced.

Do not undermine the children because they are learning fast and I sometimes find myself learning much from them.
