Racial Harmony Day

21st July, being Racial Harmony Day, is a significant day in Singapore to commemorate the Race Riots on 21st July 1964.  It marks the day for Singaporeans, especially our younger ones, to reflect on and also appreciate Singapore’s racial harmony today.

Like other schools in Singapore, Brendan’s school has strongly encouraged the students to put on their traditional costumes to attend classes.   It was not compulsory but Brendan put on his Chinese traditional costume, something that he would wear only during Lunar New Year. Although it is a meaningful day, I hope our young ones today can truly understand and treasure the value of racial harmony …..while putting on these costumes.
