Singapore Art Exhibition

Singapore Art Museum was one of the places where we had our wedding photographs taken and I still have a nostalgic feeling over the place.  Since Singapore Art Exhibition, “Art Buffet Singapore”, is held at the Singapore Art Museum from 22 August to 18 October 2009, we brought the boys to view the art exhibits at Singapore Art Museum. It has been a long time since I last visited an art exhibition and it would be in support of Singaporean’s art and creative works.

[Details: For the Art Buffet Singapore, artists from all disciplines can submit their works based on 12 themes which include Body, Craft, Food, Material, Ritual, Spectrum, Signs, Gesture, Time, Space, Order and Humour. The winning submission will be awarded a Prize in the form of S$50,000 grant which can be used for professional or capability development.]

Actually, before we went, I was uncertain about the kids’ interests over art exhibits or whether they have the patience to go round with papa and mommy enjoying others’ works.  Errr….. I was half right  because while Brendan at least showed a little interest by asking some questions, Darren was probably more excited to post  for his personal photos. The kids’ understandings of art are minimal. To them, art means mainly the pictures that they have drawn and also handmade gifts that they have made. It is no wonder that they do not understand how the exhibits, which include photography works, gadgets built and space set-up, are parts of the exhibitions.

It certainly needs much creativity, good imaginations and skills to be an artist. The contributors of the submissions have certainly put in good efforts.
