Life’s Reflections (6) : A Race In Life

 LIFE IS LIKE A RACE

We race against time.

We race against our different priorities in life.

We race against others.

We race against ourselves.

Yeap. It is COMMON for so many of us to say that we are busy and we are juggling with so many things in life.

We often feel pressurised by competition, be it upon ourselves, our teams or our loved ones.

Hey! Isn’t it a daily sight to see many racing just to get on board that packed train or bus?

Isn’t it disturbing to hear many complaining that they have no work-life balance because they are SOooooo Busy?

The worse is when we don’t know that we are racing against “ourself” to keep setting those high expectations.

———–

Ahem.  I am a guilty one.

So often, I don’t know whether to attribute this to the society or myself or others.

Everyday has become a race, rushing to fulfill many responsibilities - between work and family.

Each day, I impose the responsibility to stretch myself to the LAST HOUR THAT I CAN SUSTAIN to do my best for everything.

Thinking back….If we are not careful, we might subconsciously influence the people around or even our children to feel pressurised too -  in our race of time and expectations.

Yeah…it is scary cos I can’t remember when was the last time when I DO NOT have to scream the command for others to be “FASTER”,
“QUICK” or if not “MORE”.

Life is short as it is.

Living life in a swift might not necessarily help us to reach our desired destination earlier but certainly make us miss out the beauty of the journey and to lose ourselves.

Each phase of life sweeps past so quickly before we even know it. In a race, we surge forward with no turning back.

When we slow down our pace, we will have the space to think better, to appreciate, to enjoy life, to do what is really important, and to pay attention to those loved ones who really need us - but who have been our silent supporters all this while, there behind us as we race against time  (while we give excuse that we have no time for others and add new priorities to our lives).

———-

Arghh…regrets!

I need to remember this - to reset my life targets and objectives.

Oh dear! As we run that race, what have we lost in life?

What have we won in life till now? And what we have won? If we can do a balance sheet of a snapshot in time, can you be your own judge to say if you have surplus or deficit?

Life is so complicated already, I wish I could remember to pause, take a deep breath and enjoy… while I can and still enjoy the process of being a human on earth ;)

Yes, 24 hours is not enough for me in a way… though my kids are big now, there are so much to do in the house.. so much postponement, i must learn how to set the priorities right, something like time management… :)

  • wenn says:

i used to race a lot. Now I try to take things a little slower.

  • Jus says:

I totally agree! I guess we gotta keep taking stock and enjoy the journey… Hang in there!

Life is short indeed. Better try and failed than never tried at all.

    Michael,

We should remember to slow down and enjoy that process in life. I am in the same ship as many others whereby I feel that I need to race through life to meet needs and expectations of many others - whether at work or at home. Then it becomes a cycle and that momentum will never end, unless we stop it or breakdown.

  • Denesa says:

    Hi Claire,

Time management has to be supplemented by setting our priorities in life. I have learned that those endless achievements are just passing glory and if it is at the expense of the moments spent with my loved ones, it is something that money can never buy back.

  • Denesa says:

    Wenn,

That’s good for you. I think I am a terrible “Driver” in life cos I just know how to speed forward in life without knowing how to release my accelerator or brake effectively.

  • Denesa says:

    Hi Jus,

I like your perspectives in life when you will never forget to look back into what you have done each week with your family and be thankful for what you have. It is good to self-reflect every now and then to make the coming week/month an even better one:)

  • Denesa says:

    VS,

Learning to cherish every of our treasured ones in life and moments of our lives will ensure that we have no regrets later.
