Family Night Out - At The Singapore River Festival
It is the Singapore River Festival 2009 from 19 June to 27 June. Always on the look-out for fun and special activities for the boys, we definitely would not miss the chance of dropping by Boat Quay, Singapore for the free boat ride, performances and relaxing strolls.
We were disappointed that we did not manage to get into the free boat ride along the river, having missed the queue for the last boat at 9pm. Nevertheless, we managed to enjoy many beautiful scenes – colourfully decorated and lit up bumboat parade which features kampung boys, traders, coolies, samsui women, rickshaw pullers, Chinese opera singers, street hawkers and vanishing traders; awesome river night scene with live performances at the river bank; and unexpectedly loud and spectacular fireworks which were set-off from the nearby Marina Bay. The boys got a free historical lesson as they learned about the history of Singapore Founder, Sir Stamford Raffles, whose statue stands firmly at the river bank of Boat Quay.
Naturally, the boys were competing to take photos too. The beautiful and relaxing night ended us in the classy Fullerton Hotel. It was really a memorable time for the family although we almost gave up the trip initially due to slight drizzle.
